WINTER VEST TREND
Totally had to jump on the ‘winter vest trend’ that is currently going on for fall/winter 2021 especially since I already had this beautiful fur vest in my closet which I bought years ago while still at fashion school.
If I remember correctly, this fur vest was purchased in Kensington Market and cost me around $150. I did have to do some minor repairs around the arm holes but since I was in school for design, it was easy for me to hand sew and do myself. I remember, every time I wore this vest I got so many compliments on it and even had one Toronto condo developer come up to me while standing outside a restaurant on King Street West and offer to buy it off my back for an insane amount of money because his wife who he was with, loved it so much. I was so flattered but obviously couldn’t part with it. I’m sad to say that it has been hiding in my closet and storage for the last few years but now that I have moved and have all my stuff in one place again you can bet i’ll be busting it out more often.
I know it kind of sucks that it’s vintage for the purpose of this post and I can’t providing you with a link to purchase this exact product but that is not to say your local vintage store wont have something similar in their fur section for cheaper than you would have been able to find it online brand new (fur is expensive after all). I also encourage you to get creative and think outside the box as you can always find a fur jacket you like at a vintage store and have the arms removed to create an oversized vest. It’s an easy enough thing to do that you can probably do it yourself if you know how to hand sew or take it to a tailor. Hell, I’m sure your grandmother would do it for you if you asked nicely.

VINTAGE STORES IN TORONTO
If you are ever looking for really good vintage finds and happen to be in Toronto, I highly recommend going to Kensington Market or wandering down Dundas between Ossington and Dufferin where you will find a bunch of vintage stores. Bloor Street West also has a bunch of vintage stores so if you are open to investing the time, I am sure the payoff will be worth it. Lastly, having just moved to Little Portugal in Toronto, I did stumble across a great outdoor vintage clothing flee market at the end of last summer that goes on every weekend in the summer. It is such a vibe and always fun to check out. Usually there is a DJ and a bunch of cool vendors so I highly recommend checking it out. I believe it is starting back up in March!
