PUNTA MITA MEXICO TRAVEL VLOG: AN EAT, STAY, PLAY GUIDE

Punta De Mita - Things to do in Punta Mita Mexico - Places to stay in Punta Mita, Vacation home rentals

My girlfriend Joja joined me on my trip to Punta Mita as my ‘babymoon’ companion! What a great friend!

A Punta Mita, Nayarit Eat, Stay, Play Travel Guide

It may not have been the babymoon I had pictured but my recent trip to Punta Mita, Mexico ended up just being just what I needed.

If you are new to my Youtube channel or blog, my husband Adam and I have been slowly renovation our Toronto Victorian home for the past 18 months and after a year of renovations we finally moved back into our house this past May, got married in Italy this September and found out I was pregnant the same week we got back from our honeymoon in Croatia. This past year has been nothing if not momentous and knowing the next phase of our renovation was just on the horizon, I knew if I didn’t go visit my parents at their new condo in Punta Mita now, I probably wouldn’t get another opportunity for at least 10 months. So off I went!

Unfortunately for me, the timing did not work for my husband who was swamped at work so instead of being the babymoon I had pictured, I invited a friend to join me as my pregnancy companion to enjoy some warm weather and sunshine while I can.

It had been a quite some time since my last trip to Punta Mita 9 years ago and so much had changed. Previously, Adam and I had gone there with my parents and stayed at a family friends’ place but this time around, my girlfriend and I would be staying at their newly built condo and could visit the new Punta Mita beach clubs that had opened since and dine at all the best restaurants.

If you have never been to Punta Mita Mexico before, it’s a luxurious 1,500-acre private residential community located on a spear-shaped peninsula that features two luxury hotel properties (the Four Seasons Punta Mita and St. Regis Punta Mita) and numerous world-class amenities including two Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses.

Where is Punta Mita?

Situated 45 km (28 miles) from Puerto Vallarta International Airport, it takes about 45-50 minutes to get to Punta Mita by car, but once there you are surrounded on three sides by nine and a half miles of beaches. Outside the gates of Punta Mita you will find Punta de Mita, a small artisan, merchant and fishing village with restaurants, stores, markets and cafes to explore. Access into Punta Mita is only available to guests staying at the hotel or property owners and their invited guests making it a very private and exclusive destination that attracts celebrities and international elite visitors alike.

Things to Do in Punta Mita Mexico - Punta De Mita - Best restaurants in Punta mita - Asai Japanese restaurant at Kupuri beach club - punta mita beach clubs

Kupuri Beach Club! One of four beach clubs in Punta Mita that are open to residents and vacation property renters.

Things To Do in Punta Mita

Relax at the numerous Punta Mita Beach clubs - As a resident or vacation property renter you gain access to the numbers Punta Mita beach clubs including Kupuri beach club which features the Navi Spa and Coritas Kids Club (an air conditioned clubhouse that accommodates toddlers to teenagers with a roster of activities including wading pools and video games), Sufi Ocean Club, Sea Breeze Beach Club, and Pacifico Beach club. Each beach club features their own array of ocean sport activities, a variety of swimming pools as well as culinary offerings.

Get Active - There are so many ways to stay active in Punta Mita. With close to 6.5 km (4 miles) of recreation trails to the Tennis and Fitness Centre, and water sports (paddle boarding, boogie boarding, sailing, wind sports and snorkelling equipment are all available for rent or can be paired with lessons), there are so many ways to stay active. Of course, for those interested in golf, The Four Seasons Golf Course features two Jack Nicklaus-designed courses that offer views of the Sierra Madre Mountains, Bahía de Banderas and the Pacific. It also features the world renowned “Tail of the Whale” – the world’s only natural island green (can only be played at low tide). Adam and I played the course 9 years ago when we were last in Punta Mita and although Adam is a much more of an experienced golfer, it is a beautiful course that is well worth planning ahead for.

Blend your own Tequila! - Had I been able to drink or had Adam been with me, I would have done this experience in a heartbeat!. Offered through the Four Seasons, you can pay to participate in a two hour guided tasting where you explore different versions of tequila and then blend a unique tequila that reflects your own tastes and preferences. My mom did this experience and vouched for how great it was not to mention makes a great souvenir to take home at the end of your trip!

Go Shopping - There isn’t much shopping to do in Punta Mita itself (unless you need a new golf shirt in which case head to the club house) but as soon as you leave the gates and cross the street into Punta De Mita you will find numerous little boutiques to explore. Two of my favourite included a home decor store called Un Pueblo, and a clothing/accessory store called Belem del Mar where I found the cutest pair of father - son matching bathing suits I had to buy for Adam and his soon-to-be mini.

Spend the day at the spa - As a resident or vacation property renter, not only do you have access to the Navi Spa at Kupuri Beach Club but you can also access the spa at both the Four Seasons Punta Mita and the St. Regis Punta Mita, which leaves only one question, which do you try first?

Book a medical treatment - Not something you may typically think about when planning a vacation but worth keeping in mind is that Punta Mita does have an outstanding private hospital with spectacular medical team that uses state-of-the-art technology. Looking for a quick MRI, suffer from a heart condition, or want to talk to someone about infertility treatments, Punta Mita Hospital offers an array of services and specialties to help you. Not to mention, Punta Mita makes for an ideal destination to relax by the sea while going through recovery.

Punta De Mita - Things to do in Punta Mita Mexico - best restaurants in punta mita - la pescadora

My girlfriend Joja picked the best table for dinner at Pescadora in Punta de Mita. I mean, just look at that ocean front view!

Best Restaurants in Punta Mita

Asai Japanese - If you love Japanese food you have to visit Kupuri Beach Club’s Japanese restaurant serving delicious Asian Cuisine By Chef Yasuo! Using a mix of traditional methods and flavors with creative innovations you can choose from all the traditional sushi dishes you love like rolls, sushi, nigiri, dim sum, noodle soups, and bowls while also indulging in new creations featuring a clear influence steaming from Mexican cuisine. Seafood doesn’t get any fresher when in Mexico so why not indulge in some delicious Japanese food while there. Just be sure to save room for dessert because the ‘crispy ice cream sandwich with roasted hazelnuts, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate ganache was also out of this world.

Restaurant Sufi - Located inside Sufi Ocean Club, Restaurant Sufi combines the flavors of Mexico and the Mediterranean to create a cuisine dubbed “Mexiterranean." This was one of the first places we ate at for lunch while in Punta Mita and not only are the ocean front views amazing but so is the food! Definitelyy one of the best restaurants in Punta Mita to enjoy lunch if you ask me!

Majagua Pop Up at St Regis - Serving delicious Mexican favourites like tacos, ceviche and cochinita, The St. Regis pop up restaurant on the beach is definitely worth a visit while it lasts. We ended up going here twice actually because not only do they have a great selection of tacos (something I seem to always be craving while pregnant) but their menu featured this Zucchini in green sauce with cojita cheese that was just out of this world! I need to figure out how to make it because it looked so easy and was just that good.

Punta Mita Nayarit Mexico - Best restaurants in Punta Mita - Tuna Blanca Punta Mita

Highly recommend grabbing a seat on the beachfront patio at Tuna Blanca in Punta De Mita. We got to enjoy the most spectacular sunset during our meal!

Tuna Blanca by Thierry Blouet - An upscale (well as upscale as it gets in Punta De Mita) seafood restaurant with a large air-conditioned indoor dining room as well as a beachfront patio for those who like to enjoy their meals al fresco. We started off our meal at Tuna Blanca with a table side prepared Caesar salad, followed by roasted artichokes, tuna tostada, and ended with a plate of steamed mussels in a white wine and creme sauce! Yum!

ParrotFish Punta Mita - This Asian/Latin fusion restaurant is also located in the town of Punta De Mita and uses locally sourced high quality ingredients in all their dishes. My parents visit this restaurant weekly and absolutely love their shrimp tempura as well as their creative sushi rolls and “A La Piedra” Tuna slices marinated in a citrus ponzu. This is probably the best restaurant in Punta de Mita for dinner if you want to try something outside the luxury hotels.

Punta De Mita - Things to do in Punta Mita Mexico - best restaurants in punta mita - la pescadora

The roasted beet salad from La Pescadora in Punta de Mita

La Pescadora - This open-air barbecue and seafood restaurant located right on the beach in Punta de Mita offers great sunset views set in a causal atmosphere. We had dinner here on one of our first nights in Punta Mita and it was an obvious hangout for people looking to watch the game under a large Palapa while drinking margaritas. Honourable menu mentions include the shrimp fettuccine, roasted beet salad, and their catch of the day grilled and sautéed in lemons juice, capers, and a touch of butter.

Punta Mita Mexico - Babymoon in Mexico - Babymoon places - vacation outfit ideas for pregnancy

Bump Style! Vacation pregnancy outfits I wore in Punta Mita. Love showing off my growing bump!

Casa Teresa Punta Mita - Who would have thought you could find a traditional Italian style Trattoria in the middle of Mexico?? Not I! But here we are! The menu at Casa Teresa features many traditional Italian dishes including numerous pasta dishes. Highlights of this menu include the Buratta and roasted beet appetizer, the Caprese with roasted Gala Apple Salad, and the Italian Lemon Octopus. I also loved the chocolate brownie they offered for dessert and my girlfriend said her Carbonara was delicious.

Boca Deli - A little cafe and coffee shop in Punta de Mita that serves sandwiches, salads, smoothies, Boca Deli is a fun little place to visit for breakfast or lunch. My girlfriend and I grabbed some ice coffees here while wandering around the shops of Punta de Mita after lunch and found it to be a cute little spot right beside the food and vegetable market that was worth even a short visit.

While in Mexico, my mom’s housekeeper/cook also taught me how to make authentic Baja fish tacos using the Mahi Mahi fish and shrimp we got at the market in La Cruz. If you are interested in the recipe, check out my Baja Fish Taco Recipe blog post! Here’s a little preview below!

Sayulita Nayarit - Sayulita Mexico- Things to do in Sayulita Mexico - Sayulita Puerto Vallarta - Sayulita shopping

One of my favourite things to do is go shopping in Sayulita as there are so many cool boutiques to check out!

Quick Road Trip And Places To Explore Around Punta Mita

Sayulita, Nayarit and San Francisco (aka San Pancho) - Located about 30 minutes up the coast from Punta Mita you will discover two fun and vibrant Mexican towns with their own unique charm and appeal. Sayulita, Mexico is full of expats and locals alike and features numerous cafes, restaurants, hotels hostels and bars to hang out at along with a busy beach where you can swim and admire the surfers. San Francisco on the other hand is much quieter than Sayulita with less booming music, but still offers the same charm you would expect from a small Mexican town. We spent a day in Sayulita and San Francisco during this recent trip to Punta Mita and my girlfriend loved it. For those travelling alone or those interested in more of a party scene, Sayulita would definitely be your vibe where as if you wanted something more authentic and relaxed, San Pancho is for you as the streets and beach are noticeably less busy.

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle - Another great place to explore if you are staying in Punta Mita long term is La Cruz. Located 30 minutes down the coast towards Puerto Vallarta is a small, developing Mexican fishing village with a large marina and of course a fish market (Mercado del Mar). You don’t need more than a morning to explore the whole town but there is definitely a few restaurants worth trying, a small knick·knack market to explore, and of course a large beach. Deep sea fishing is one of the main water activities of La Cruz, thanks to the abundance of fish species such as tuna, marlin and mahi-mahi, so if you are interested in a chartered day trips you will find plenty of businesses offering just that out of the marina in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. My mom and I did a little road trip to La Cruz to have lunch with her friends and purchase fresh fish from the local fisherman for that night’s dinner and even though I was there for only a short amount of time, I found it to be quiet charming. My mom also told me that on Sundays they have a great market set up on the pier with around 170 vendors to explore.

Thank you so much for checking out my Eat, Stay, Play, guide to Punta Mita, Mexico. If you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comment section below, otherwise don’t forget to subscribe as I’ll be back with more travel content soon. Hsta Pronto!

Punta Mita Mexico Travel Guide _ Day Trip to Sayulita Mexico

DISCOVERING SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE - A DIFFERENT SIDE TO MEXICO

Exploring the hilly cobblestone streets of San miguel de Allende

Exploring the hilly cobblestone streets of San miguel de Allende

It was 6am and I was tired. It had taken me pretty much all of the previous day to travel from Toronto to Mexico and I hadn’t arrived at my accommodations until close to 1am. Now, in the early morning, I found myself floating 1000 feet above the small town of San Miguel de Allende in a giant hot air balloon. The sun was starting to rise in the distance and streaks of light illuminated the world below me, casting a warm glow. ‘How did I get here?’ I asked myself in a bit of a daze from the beauty I was witnessing.

Truth be told the answer to my question is not as amazing as that first sleepy morning in San Miguel. It was my editor who had reached out to me and asked if I wanted to go, and if I am being completely honest, San Miguel was a destination that had yet to come up on my radar. Curious to know more about it, I of course did what most millennials do, I Googled it and was soon scrolling through beautiful pictures of bright colourful buildings and cobblestone streets. ‘This place is so beautiful!’ I thought to myself. With my sights set on San Miguel I instantly started to day dream of all the pretty shots I was going to take and I knew there was no way I was going to pass up this opportunity.

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE WEATHER

The weather in San Miguel de Allende doesn’t vary too much thought the year. The average high temperatures hover between 22 and 31 degrees Celsius (73 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit), and the best time to visit San Miguel de Allende is said to be between November through April because there is less rainfall than in the summer months. One thing to note though is that it does get chillier at night so make sure to bring some cardigans or layers for after the sun goes down.

San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful, walkable, little town in the heart of Mexico!

San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful, walkable, little town in the heart of Mexico!

San Miguel de Allende is a small, charming, hilly town in Mexico (population of about 90,000 in the town proper) that is located 270km north west of Mexico City. Unlike other more popular Mexican beach destinations, San Miguel de Allende is completely land locked and is actually situated at a higher elevation than Denver, Colorado. In the early 20th century the small town of San Miguel was in danger of becoming a ghost town, but thanks to the opening of the renowned Instituto Allende (a visual arts school) in 1950, the city developed a booming art scene that drew in people from all over the world. Today, the city continues to thrive and its flourishing art scene has become a haven for bohemian expats and artist who want to settle in Mexico (the town as about 17,000 expats which is quite larger considering its total population). In recent years, gastronomy has also started to take centre stage in San Miguel aided by the town’s lush surrounding farmlands and vineyards. Today, San Miguel is a popular weekend retreat for Mexicans, a hot spot for weddings, and an attractive destination for international visitors like myself.

- SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE HOTELS -

Travelling to San Miguel is not cheap. Unlike other destinations in Mexico, the closest airport to San Miguel is actually in Leon, an hours drive away which makes it a little more difficult to get to. Shuttles and car rentals are available but since accommodations are in such demand, it’s better to visit during the week to avoid peak hotel room rates.

While in San Miguel I stayed at Hotel La Morada, a quaint 4-star boutique hotel with only 26 rooms. This hotel in San Miguel was perfectly located steps away from the main square of town and I could see the iconic pink church, Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel from my room’s balcony. The hotel itself was once a colonial house that recently underwent renovations and although the remodeling gave the hotel quite an upgrade, it still maintains much of its historical charm.

If you are looking for more upscale accommodations to stay at while in San Miguel there is no shortage of choices. Three that I visited for drinks and/or dinner while in town and found VERY APPEALING were L’Otel, Rosewood San Miguel, and Live Aqua.

L’Otel, a luxurious, super boutique property – only 10 rooms, all of which are suites – is actually located a stones-throw away from my hotel and was part of Doce 18 Concept House, a collective of design, art, and gastronomy offerings. Travel and Leisure listed L’Otel as one of the best boutique hotel in the world in 2017 and it did not disappoint. You don’t have to stay there to enjoy it either. Check out the stores and wander around the food hall downstairs before making your way to the top floor where the hotel is located. You can buy a drink or order bites from the bar upstairs and enjoy it outside by the pool. You well love it and I can only describe it as an interior designer’s wet dream.

During my time in San Miguel De Allende, I spent a morning visiting the San Miguel Rosewood Hotel. This hotel was very impressive in both size and the way it fuses history with modern convenience and style. One of the great features of this hotel is that it has a few large residence style suits ranging from 2 - 5 bedroom that you can book when travelling as a large family, group of friends or for a wedding party. Each suite features spacious indoor living areas, garden patios, a full kitchen, private garage and rooftop terraces! You can even elevate your experience with these suits with the addition of a personal butler or a pre arrival grocery service. Furhter, the Sense Spa at Rosewood San Miguel De Allende is also worth check out as it mixes luxury pampering with indigenous Mexican ingredients known for their healing properties.

The third hotel that I loved after just a quick visit was Live Aqua Urban Resort. This 153 room hotel is luxury to THE MAX. The hotel itself has a very modern feel and although I didn’t stay there, I did get to walk around the property and enjoy a tasty dinner at Spice Market, an Asian restaurant located on the second floor of the hotel. If you can’t afford to stay there, like me, I definitely would still recommend going to check it out to grab a drink or a bite. My experience was fantastic and I loved the meal and the delectable cocktails.

- THINGS TO DO IN SAN MIGUEL -

In terms of activities I would definitely recommend doing the hot air balloon ride while in town. It was my first time in a balloon and since I am usually scared of heights, I wasn’t completely sure how it was going to go at first. To my surprise though I felt very safe and since the basket walls are quite tall, you end up feeling very secure. The company we used for our excursion was Globo San Miguel Hot Air Balloon Adventures. Rates start at about $200 CAD per person and after our excursion they took us to the Rosewood San Migel De Allende Hotel where they had arranged a beautiful breakfast in the hotel’s courtyard (an extra $25 CAD with your ticket). In hindsight I think this was probably the most delightful way to be first introduced to San Miguel and I absolutely loved the whole experience.

While in town I would also recommend checking out Fabrica La Aurora, an old textile factory that has been transformed into a multi-use art space that is now home to galleries, antique shops, and artist workshops. You can easily spend an afternoon there perusing through all the different spaces or even sign up for a workshops with a local artist. It’s a great way to experience the local art scene in San Miguel and get a taste for what it would be like to live there as an artist.

Since San Miguel has so much lush farmland surrounding it, I would also recommend doing a tasting at one of the local wineries. I mean where else can you try Mexican wine? I got a chance to do a tasting at Toyan Vineyard, an organic winery located just 10 minutes from the heart of town. Toyan offers tours of La Cava, ‘the caves’, a wine cellar 14 meters below ground. Stone monk sculptures light up the pathway down to the cellar and it is here where you will also find their tasting room which doubles as an event space. The tour and tasting was about an hour to an hour and a half long and the whole experience here was way more amusing then other wine tasting experiences I have had in the past. It definitely felt like more of a unique considering they actually bring you down into the cellars and you get to walk through dark lit corridors lined with barrels and bottles of wine. It also gave me a great excuse to bring a bottle of wine home as a souvenir!

- RESTAURANTS IN SAN MIGUEL -

As I mentioned, in recent years an elevated gastronomy scene has become part of San Miguel’s overall draw. One place that has made quiet a name for its self is Chef Jorge Cocega’s restaurant Ruta De La Milpa. Chef Jorge forages for fresh local ingredients that he uses to create elevated indigenous dishes. It’s not just about experiencing traditional Mexican food at Ruta De La Milpa, it’s more about getting a REAL taste of Mexico in a fine dining setting. While there my group and I got to try Chef Jorge’s tasting menu which ran the gamut of menu offerings and the excessive amounts of ‘mmm, so good’ coming from everyone at our table was a sure indication that I was not the only one who was blown away by the meal.

El Petite Four, a French patisserie and cafe in the heart of town also needs to be on your list of restaurants in San Miguel you need to try. We spent an hour here one morning, hanging in the courtyard of the patisserie enjoying a selection of wonderful pastries, sandwiches and coffees. The cousin duo who started this patisserie 20 years ago has built a business that has today become a staple and go-to place for wedding cakes in San Miguel. Chef Paco came out and welcomed our group and it was so nice to be able to interact and learn more about how their little French patisserie came to be in San Miguel – a very interesting story you should ask him to recount for you when you go.

Last but definitely not least, if you have the opportunity to get out to the countryside I would recommend going to El Vergel Bistro and Market, a small French country restaurant by Chef Ari Vasquez. Alongside the restaurant you will also find a small market where you can purchase a selection of deli products, cheeses, and even wines to take home with you. My group stopped here on the way back from visiting the hot springs and enjoyed a beautiful meal accompanied by a delicious glass of rosé on their shaded patio. The whole experience felt quite tranquil and I loved not just the food but this ‘new setting’ of enjoying lunch in the Mexican countryside.

Although my trip to San Miguel de Allende was a short one, I was taken aback by how beautiful and charming the hilly, colourful cobblestone town was. It was unlike any other travel experience I have had in Mexico. San Miguel felt truly unique which is why it was not surprising to find out that it continues to see an increase in visitors each year. If you are looking to experience a less commercial, more authentic Mexican experience, I would definitely recommend starting with San Miguel. I have full faith in its ability to capture the hearts of all who visit, as I know firsthand, it captured mine.

PUNTA MITA, MEXICO

I recently (as you may of already noticed via my Instagram) went on a week long vacation to Punta Mita, a small village located 10 miles north of Puerto Vallarta. In the last 10 years Punta Mita has seen a lot of economic growth especially due to a huge private development that houses numerous estates, clubhouses, private restaurants, beach clubs, a medical centre and two luxury hotels. Although it may take me light years till I can afford to own a house there, Punta Mita is probably as close to heaven as I have ever been. Except in this case only those who own a house, know someone who does or are a guest at one of the two luxury hotels can pass St Peter’s pearly white gates. Even the hotel accommodations come at quiet a hefty price tag of $1,000+ USD a night for the smallest casita. This place could not be more luxurious – the Prime Minister of Mexico goes on vacation there for heaven sake!

While most of us could only dream about going to a place like this, I miraculously was invited to come explore the private compound and share my experience with you. So here we go >>>----->

ACCOMMODATIONS

The St Regis is probably the most expensive hotel I have ever come across with rooms starting at over $5,000+ USD in high season. I cannot imagine what kind of top notch, heavenly services you get for that price tag however from my first impression of visiting and dinning there it is probably pretty spectacular. The hotel itself is gorgeous and you can tell no expense was spared when they designed it. The hotels signature restaurant Carolina offers a fine dining experience of the very best in contemporary Mexican cuisine. Using fresh local ingredients and uncompromised cooking techniques Carolina captures the hearts and souls (should I drop the heaven thing yet lol) of all who eat there. With signature dishes like ceviche, suckling pig, and quail tacos there is something for everyone’s palate.

The Four Seasons in Punta Mita is actually owned by Bill Gates. This Mexican oasis is absolutely picture perfect and exactly how you would imagine a beachfront hotel. With white-sand beaches and turquoise waters there is no wonder that the area features some of the best snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, surfing and golf in the world.  Although I did not stay at The Four Season I did get to eat there! The Aramara restaurant in The Four Season features exquisite contemporary Asian cuisine made from the freshest product and seafood caught daily right off the shores of Punta Mita. With indoor and outdoor dining options Aramara offers zen-like touches to a wonderful dining experience. Get the crispy shrimp! They are unreal!

ACTIVITIES

The recently renovated Kupuri Beach Club is one of three intimate resident beach clubs that offers additional socializing, relaxation, and dining experiences for resident members and their guests. With valet parking, a concierge, spa services, an infinity pool, beach bar, water and fitness activities and of course lots of beach front – an afternoon at this beach club is an afternoon well spent.

Vista Paraiso offers a wide range of activities including ziplining, horseback riding and ATV tours. It is located about a 15-20 minute drive from Punta Mita. I went on a horseback riding tour through the small Mexican village of Higuera Blanca onto a small jungle trail and along a sunny beach. The ride lasted about an hour and a half and the horses were very well behaved. The ride is led by the ranch vaquero (that’s Mexican for cowboy – I say Mexican because I don’t think this is a word used in Spain) and is well documented by the resident ‘paparazzi’ who will print your photo at the end of the ride for a price.  I enjoyed myself at the ranch and everyone was very friendly however I would of probably preferred something a little more high pace like ATVing – ok I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie, DON’T JUDGE!

Golfing in the Punta Mita estates is unreal! I may not be a very experienced golfer but the people I played with were and they were just as impressed by the 36 holes - Jack Nicklaus golf course as I was. The golf course and clubhouse is open to the residence of the estates and their guest as well as the St. Regis and The Four Season guests. Don’t get distracted by the ocean views and picturesque manicured landscapes because this course gets quiet difficult even for those well seasoned golfers. Check out this hole below!

The Pacífico, with eight holes directly facing or playing alongside the Pacific Ocean, features the “Tail of the Whale”, an optional par-three hole with the largest natural island green in the world.

I will admit that I am much more familiar with Tennis then I am golf which is why it is no surprise I found myself drawn to the Tennis Center in the Punta Mita estates. Nestled into a grove of palm trees the Tennis Center offers hard and soft sand filled synthetic grass courts to suit your preference and also features complimentary use of balls and shoes. Additionally, ice water and chilled hand towels that have a hint of lemon freshness are placed courtside to help you cool off after a game. Now that is classy! Rackets are available to rent for $8 so no need to lug yours all the way to Mexico!

If you win the lottery or are looking for a great luxury vacation Punta Mita is the perfect destination for you. The area is very safe and family friendly and offers tons of activities including great surfing (I wanted to surf so bad but there wasn’t enough time). If you’re in the market to purchase a vacation home or apartment I would urge you to consider looking at this development! The St. Regis and Four Seasons do maintain and rent properties in the compound on behalf of the owners when they are not occupied so there are also potential income benefits available to investing in paradise! So what are you waiting for? GO!

A TRAVEL GUIDE TO TODOS SANTOS, MEXICO'S BAJA CALIFORNIA

A TRAVEL GUIDE

I recently took a trip to Todos Santos Mexico in January and had an amazing time. It's a quaint little Mexican town full of artists, ex-pats, and hippies free to live their bohemian/low maintenance lifestyles in a small rural city an hour away from the commercialized Cabo San Lucas. Todos Santos has many draws including great beaches and the widely known Hotel California where this year’s Todos Santos Music Festival was held.

MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Todos Santos Music Festival was created by Peter Buck of REM in 2012 and brought to life by The Hotel California as a way of bringing musicians together to make a difference in the community and support local charities.

BEACHES AND RESTAURANTS

Aside from the music festival the area is full of fun activities! There are both quiet and built-up beaches in and near Todos Santos where you can surf and boogyboard and many pleasant restaurants and cafes in town. There are also local food and artisan markets weekly and at sunset, you can occasionally go see the turtle release.

Above are photos from a turtle release on January 20th 2016

Tortugueros Las Playitas is an environmental conservation with a sea turtle focus whose mission is "to protect, conserve and replenish the fragile marine eco-systems of Baja California Sur, Mexico". On occasion when a nest has hatched they have a free viewing of the release at sunset. You are also able to adopt a nest for $40 USD and contribute to their cause. In exchange, they will send you photos of your nest once it hatches! Cute right!

Aside from the turtle release I recommend you go to La Esquina Cafe - a cute outdoor cafe and popular restaurant in Todos Santos that has a relaxing bohemian feel. Their menu consists of great options from healthy veggie shakes and smoothies to full breakfast and sandwiches all very reasonably priced. I had a breakfast enchilada (seen below) paired with a La Esquina Special (a fresh, local and organic fruit smoothie) which was delicious. On Wednesdays, they host a small outdoor market where locals sell their homemade loaves of bread, artisan leather goods, and even organic pesticides. When I went to the market they had a musician playing live music and people couldn't help but get up and dance while they waited for their breakfast. On Thursday evening they are also known to host a band and although I never had the chance to go I definitely would check it out next time I go back.

I was so inspired by all the great food and culture of the area that I took advantage of the local markets and fresh ingredients to cook an authentic Mexican meal! I was able to find fresh chorizo at the market along with zucchini hearts (otherwise known as squash blossoms), fresh fish from the local fisherman and all the citrus fruits your heart could desire. In pursuit of my goal of a home-cooked Mexican-inspired meal, I made chorizo potato tacos with fresh guacamole, fried stuffed zucchini hearts, and fresh traditional Mexican ceviche! Also as a refresher, my friends came up with this delicious 'Mexican Screwdrivier' which had vodka, fresh orange juice, Cointreau, and a splash of fresh pomegranate juice! Perfect for sipping by the pool! All of these delicious dishes, which I encourage you to try making yourself, can be found under the Food & Drink section of my blog!

On top of all the great food, there are some hidden gems that I also want to share with you including this fabulous hidden beach that is so picturesque and great for bodyboarding. Off the highway, down a dirt road, and hidden behind an oasis of palm trees there lies a hidden, remote beach called Los Palmas. It’s a little tricky to get to so ask a local for directions just to be safe. When my friends and I went to this beach for the afternoon there were wild horses grazing along the oasis of palm trees. I do not recommend getting too close as they are wild but please enjoy them from a distance. This beach seemed practically deserted and is a great place to have a romantic picnic or bask in the cool ocean water and hot sun!

Before I end this adventure I also have to tell you briefly about three more things! The first is called Tacos El Poblano which was my favorite little Tacoria restaurant in Todos Santos with the best Carne (pork and/or beef) Tacos I have ever had! Not to mention they were so cheap! It doesn't look like much of a spot from the outside but it is well known and loved by the locals. We ordered 40 tacos for our group when we went there and kept having to go back for more!

The second thing, which to be honest will require a bit of luck to find because we literally saw him on the side of the road, is a local Tamale cart! Since we were renting a hacienda close to town, we were told about this guy Tamales from an ex-pat we knew living down the road. She said if we see his cart to pull over and get as many as we can because they are so good and often sell out. So there we were, a week into our vacation coming back from a beautiful day at the beach and there he was with his cart going along the side of the road. Well of course we pulled our rental car over and bought a dozen Tamales. In hindsight, we wish we had bought more because we were unable to ever find him again. The tamales however were SO DELICIOUS! I also think they were less than $1 a piece which is ridiculous! If you happen to see someone with a cart selling tamales I urge you to stop and try one!

The third restaurant in Todos Santos that I wanted to share with you was a small Italian Pizzeria/Cafe called Caffe Todos Santos. I didn't have a chance to actually eat there but the back patio looked very quaint and they had an outdoor pizza oven. I stumbled upon this place while looking for pizza dough and was directed to this cafe by a local artist. I also bought some of their jams while I was there (I thoroughly enjoyed their fig jam) along with some fresh bread and of course the pizza dough. I took a look at their menu which appeared to have both Italian and Mexican dishes and although their prices may have been high for the area I would say they were traditional American standard pricing ($15-$22 for a main).

and so now I must go but before I do I will leave you with this....

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
